Creative Industry Welcomes Apprentices
Merseyside’s creative and cultural industries have been encouraged to expand their workforces by hiring an apprentice.
The call came at an event, which was supported by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), to promote the Creative and Cultural Skills Apprenticeship programme.
Delegates from organisations including The Blue Coat Chambers and Open the Door Theatre in Education were given the opportunity to find out more about the initiative from the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).
Speakers at the event, which took place at Liverpool Community College, included Paul Dunbar, a former apprentice at the unitytheatre in Liverpool.
Sue Williams, CEO of the unitytheatre, who employed Paul as an apprentice during his National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Community Arts Management said: “I have firsthand experience of the benefits that apprentices can bring to a business and Paul has become an indispensible member of our team.
“I’ve been lucky enough to watch Paul’s career develop, from apprentice through to his position of Sales and Marketing Assistant which he started a few weeks ago.
“From my experience, apprentices bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the workplace and I’m looking forward to welcoming more apprentices to the team in the future.”
Gareth Jones, Employer Services Manager at the NAS said: “Many Merseyside employers recognise the vital contribution that apprentices can make to their businesses and the economy as a whole.
“It’s great to see the cultural and creative industry in Merseyside providing future opportunities for apprentices.”
