Dyslexia Support

Curriculum Support Service for Learners with Dyslexia / Specific Learning Differences

Liverpool Community College’s Arts and Vauxhall Road Centres are the only Post 16 providers to have the British Dyslexia Association’s Dyslexia Friendly accreditation, and this initiative will be rolled out across the college.

  • Up to one in ten people have a specific learning difference like dyslexia
  • Dyslexia is a mix of difficulties and strengths
  • Areas of difficulty often include reading, writing, organisation and short term memory
  • Common strengths are problem solving, creativity and lateral thinking
  • Many students with dyslexia learn successfully without any additional support

Support could include:

  • Confidential enquiry service
  • Screening assessments to identify learning support needs
  • One to one support teaching by specialist tutors in dyslexia and dyspraxia
  • Study skills group support sessions
  • Training in specialist software
  • Access arrangements & adjustments for exams
  • Support for self-esteem issues and referral to the College Counselling Team
  • Referral to specialist optometrists
  • Support to arrange assessments for students entering higher education
  • Guidance for course tutors and staff development on including learners with dyslexia
  • Liaison with external agencies
