Useful Websites for Applying to HE
The UCAS web site offers all the information you needed to make an application. It provides advice and information for applicants, and schools and colleges, teachers and advisers. It has a full search facility using the criteria of subjects and combinations of subjects, region and university / college. Each search result gives information on length of course, entry requirements, information on institutions, entry profiles for applicants all with links to each Higher Education Institute’s web site.
Students have to register to use an interest inventory, which identifies study/ subject interests, a search can then be made based on the results and a range of other criteria. The site offers advice and information on a whole range of H.E. issues and is a very good starting point for the confused.
This site answers very basic questions students may have about university study i.e. What is university? What can I study? How do I get in? Developed by Manchester University for the Greater Manchester Widening Participation Partnership.
Another site developed by Manchester University covering in greater depth choosing courses, and researching universities and graduate careers. It has separate sections for students, teachers and advisers and parents and guardians.
This is the online version of the Push Guide – not as comprehensive as the guide itself
( they would prefer that you bought the book) but the site is clear and easy to use with lots of useful links.
Aimed at 16-18 yr. olds, students can register as an online member. Covers choices at 18+, decision making, choosing courses and universities, making applications to H.E. and advice on UCAS.
Guide to making applications to H.E., the information is basic but clear and commonsensical. The site is linked to Amazon.co.uk.
This site is well written ( by a teacher ) and very student centred. It has particularly good common sense advice on writing personal statements.
Alternative guides to universities, entries are written by students. This site is still developing.

The Guardian newspapers’ comprehensive education site covers every aspect of Higher Education and includes a university guide and subject league tables as well as lots of relevant articles.
