How to Use the LRC
How do I join the LRC ?
Your college ID is also your library / LRC card – you do not need a separate membership card.
How do I borrow items and how many can I take?
You may borrow up to ten items. Bring the items and your ID card to the information desk and they will be issued to you. NB Do not let other students loan items on your card as you will be held responsible for any loss.
How long can I keep resources and can I renew them ?
You may borrow items for 7 or 28 days (the return date will be stamped inside the item). You can renew an item 3 times unless another person has reserved it, in which case it will have to be returned.
How do I search for a book?
The easiest and quickest way is to use the catalogue. This will give you a list of items that match your search and a number beside each one indicating where they can be found on the shelves.
How are the books arranged?
The books are arranged using a classification system called Dewey Decimal. Each book has a number usually between 3 and 6 digits long followed by 3 letters (the first three letters of the authors surname) i.e.150 GRO.
LRC staff will be happy to help you search for a particular book.
How do I use the computers?
To use the computers you must have your ID card. To logon for the first time your username is your initials in lower case followed by your ID number on your ID card e.g. nw14567 and your password is your date of birth in the following format 07/03/65
You will then be prompted to change your password. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Computers may be booked in college or from home
Is printing free?
It is free at present (under review). Think before you print! To cut down on waste – we ask you not to print items unless you are going to use them for course work.
