Travel Subsidy Information 2008/2009

Help is available with the cost of travelling between home and college. You can choose from either 1, 2 or 3 below…
1. Bus passes issued by Liverpool Education Authority
To be eligible for these passes, learners must be:
- Liverpool residents living at least 3 miles from the main college centre of attendance
- Aged up to and including the age of 19 on 31/8/2008
- Attending a full-time course of study (450 guided learning hours per year).

2. Travel expenses provided by Liverpool Community College
This help is available in the form of bus tokens, a termly bus pass or a termly rail pass.
To be eligible learners must be:
- Merseyside residents living at least 1. miles from the main college centre of attendance/placement
- Be in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- JSA
- Income Support
- Working Tax Credit (to be eligible the total household income must be less than £15,050 per annum)
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Unwaged dependants of the above
- Asylum Seekers in receipt of means tested benefit/ASS or Local Authority Support (Bed Space or Active8) – 16-18 years only.
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Learners in receipt of Education Maintenance Allowance who are not eligible for travel support from their local authority
- Learners must be fully enrolled.
Learners aged 19+ and in receipt of ASS support are NOT eligible for Travel support from the college.
Assistance is given according to the following scales, measured in a straight line from the main centre to the home address:
- More than 1 miles (1 or 2 days attendance) – £2.30 daily tokens
- More than 1 miles (3 or more days attendance) – Termly bus pass or termly rail pass.
Tokens are issued weekly in arrears based on the learner’s attendance the previous week.
Learners receiving bus tokens have the option to pay the difference and buy a termly bus pass.
If a learner loses a college issued bus pass then they will be able to apply for a replacement, via the centre office. There is a charge of £10 for the cost of the replacement and only one replacement pass per academic year will be allowed.
Learners receiving bus tokens have the option to pay the difference and buy a termly Railpass.
Rail passes can only be used in term time, Monday to Friday, up to 8.00 pm
Application forms are available from the centre office.
3. Travel expenses provided by the college Discretionary Fund
Learners who do not fall into the above categories may be able to get help by applying to the Discretionary Fund. This is dependent on the applicant’s financial position and evidence of this will be required. Learners should contact Learner Services for an application form.

You may be eligible for travel support from the college*.
If you live more than 1 mile from your main centre of attendance and are in one of the following categories:
- In receipt of a means-tested benefit (or is an unwaged dependant of same)
- Aged 16-18 (and 19 if in receipt of EMA)
Applicants must not be in receipt of any other travel support. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis
